A sprinkler system that was designed and installed by UK Sprinklers (UKS), part of PTSG Fire Solutions Ltd, has saved a property and its residents in an apartment in Manchester.
Craig Adamson of UK Dry Risers (Maintenance) Ltd, also part of PTSG Fire Solutions Ltd, received a phone call about a fire in on the 17th floor of an apartment building called Angel Gardens. He attended the site on the day of the incident and, upon entering the apartment, could see that there had been a pan fire, which had been put out by water from the single sprinkler head installed in the ceiling.
The system had been activated on detection of the fire. As each sprinkler head operates independently, only the sprinkler in the area of the fire was activated and put the fire out quickly and effectively, before any serious damage was done.
Craig replaced the sprinkler head, ensuring the apartment had uninterrupted fire protection, reinstated the sprinkler system and reset the alarm.
This was a success story for PTSG – both in how the fire was deluged by a sprinkler system designed and installed by UKS’s team, and also in the rapid response of UKDRM’s team in making the system fully operational again.
Fire sprinklers are widely recognised as the single most effective method of fighting the spread of fires in their early stages. Around 90% of building fires are controlled by fewer than four sprinkler heads. and in this case only one head activated.
