Premier Technical Services Group Ltd (PTSG) has secured a contract to provide specialist access and safety assets and services at a major building refurbishment project in London’s Square Mile.

Situated close to Fleet Street and St Paul’s Cathedral, 11 Pilgrim Street is a 21-year-old building offering 268,000 square feet of rentable space.

Refurbishment is underway to deliver sustainable offices for the future. This includes extending the sixth floor, adding a new seventh floor, new cycle parking and showers. There are aspirations to achieve BREEAM ‘Excellent’ by reusing the existing building fabric and replacing all central plant and on floor HVAC with improved energy efficient systems. A timber framed rooftop extension provides significant additional area using an innovative and low carbon approach.

Engineers from PTSG Access & Safety Ltd have been contracted to deliver a new system that will enable operatives to safely access the building’s façade in order to carry out essential maintenance work. This includes davit bases and ManSafe systems.

ManSafe fall arrest systems allow users to access areas of a roof often close to the leading edge and the fall hazard. If a fall should occur, the system is designed to limit the distance and consequence of the fall, in conjunction with the correct fall protection PPE, whilst maintaining its fixing integrity to the roof structure and allow for the subsequent rescue or self-rescue.

A davit forms part of an overall building façade access solution. It looks like a simple, small crane or gallows and consists of two main parts: the portable davit arm and the base plate or pedestal.

PTSG is one of the industry’s leading suppliers of specialist safety equipment and services for the construction and FM sectors.
