Premier Technical Services Group Ltd (PTSG) has delivered specialist electrical services to two prisons at different ends of the UK.
Her Majesty’s Prison Edinburgh is located in the west of the city on the main A71, in an area now known as Stenhouse. Although never named as such, it has commonly been known as Saughton Prison from the old name for the general area. The building of the prison started on 31 July 1914 with the first prisoner being received in 1919. The prison consists of four halls; Glenesk, Hermiston, Ingliston and Ratho.
Her Majesty’s Prison Belmarsh is a Category-A men’s prison in Thamesmead, south-east London. Belmarsh Prison was built on part of the east site of the former Royal Arsenal in Woolwich, and became operational on 2 April 1991. Accommodation at the prison is a mixture of approximately 60% multi-occupancy cells and 40% single cells, distributed mainly across four residential units.
Engineers from PTSG Electrical Services Ltd have completed a test and inspection of the lightning protection system in place at both sites. Such systems help to safeguard buildings and users in the event of an electrical storm. Regular testing and inspection is mandatory and PTSG ensures compliance with BS EN 62305.
