Premier Technical Services Group Ltd (PTSG) has been contracted to deliver specialist fire solutions at a new neighbourhood in North London.
Woodberry Down in Manor House, North London, is one of the largest housing-estate redevelopments in Britain. By 2031, around 2,000 council or former council homes will have been demolished and replaced with more than 5,500 units set in 64 acres: some social housing, some for “key workers” and the majority to be sold on the open market.
The neighbourhood is adjacent to the spectacular natural surroundings of two existing reservoirs and Finsbury Park, all within a short distance of Central London and the City. It is a sustainable development committed to the natural environment and energy conservation, enhancing the area’s abundant wildlife. Master planning for Woodberry Down has focused on creating a sustainable community, with large and improved public open spaces as well as impressive new community facilities.
Engineers from PTSG Fire Solutions Ltd will be installing sprinkler systems in the new homes to ensure they are fire-safe. Sprinkler systems have been proven in use for well over 100 years. Possibly the oldest in Britain was fitted at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane and the updated form is still in use today. Losses from fires in buildings protected with sprinklers are estimated to be 1 in 10 of those in unprotected buildings.
