Barry Ahearn, Business Development Manager for PTSG Access & Safety Ltd, has completed 27 half-marathons to raise money for Epilepsy Action
Barry finished his 27th and final race – the Battersea Park half-marathon – alongside his wife and 40 others on Saturday 8 March in the spring sunshine.
This incredible series of half-marathons was run in memory of Barry’s sister Abbie, who suffered a cardiac arrest during an epileptic seizure in September 2023. Across the team, Barry has raised almost £21,500, which is a tremendous achievement.
Barry had these words to say at the end of the series:
And just like that, I’ve completed it! Such an amazing event, excellent running by all the team and wonderful support from the sidelines – so grateful to everyone involved.
“When I set myself this challenge, I hoped to raise awareness about Epilepsy, along with some £££ to support Epilepsy Action. Whilst it’s not possible to measure the impact that this has / will have or whether it will save at least one life, but I think that the chances are now slightly higher having done this. With so many fantastic people joining me for the final run, the story has been spread much further than I could’ve hoped for and to have also raised nearly £21,500 in sponsorship across the team, I can only consider this a success.
“A huge thanks to everyone that sponsored me, came to the events to support me, and sent messages of support and motivation over the past 11 months – it helped me immensely!
“Now for 6 weeks off for some rest, then training commences for my 50km ultra marathon at Epping Forest on the 4th October to continue supporting Epilepsy Action.”
Barry’s great efforts have been covered by BBC News and in his local Epsom press (links below). He was also interviewed on his local BBC Radio Surrey breakfast show, which has seemingly generated some further interest / sponsorship.
