Premier Technical Services Group Ltd (PTSG) has been contracted to deliver repairs to a water tower in Leeds, using specialist access techniques.

Stonebridge Mills is a former industrial site in Farnley, to the west of Leeds city centre. The site is well known for its historic chimney and water tower. Both structures are being retained as the nine-acre site undergoes a redevelopment to create 112 new homes.

Stonebridge Mills played a key role in the development of Farnley and neighbouring Wortley, dating back to the early 1800s when the water-powered woollen mill was a focal point of the local community. Despite being in some form of industrial use for around 150 years, the site has been derelict for many years.

An inspection of the tower has shown the structure to be in critical condition and in urgent need of repair. It has been proposed that the existing water tank that sits on top of the tower is removed. A pre-fabricated feature tank would then be hoisted up and secured onto the structure.

Engineers from PTSG Building Access Specialists Ltd have devised a scaffolding access strategy to carry out repair and maintenance works. Design works have been completed, changing the initial fixing method to a through fix design.

Compression plates have been designed to distribute load more evenly across the internal face of the tower. PTSG has created an onsite testing regime, ensuring the highest levels of health and safety are achieved at all times.
