Premier Technical Services Group PLC (PTSG) has recently completed a lightning protection upgrade to Leeds’ Grade I-listed Leeming Building.
The Leeming building, originally built in 1904, forms part of the famous Leeds City Markets – the largest covered market in Europe. It was recently refurbished and reopened with modern office space spread over four floors.
Engineers from the Group’s Electrical Services division carried out a full service of the existing system, before installing new conductor tapes and surge protection devices to the building’s main incoming electrical supply.
As the Leeming Building’s façade is so iconic, great care had to be taken to ensure that the work was carried out carefully and to guarantee that the lightning protection system doesn’t detract from the building’s appearance. The building remained operational throughout PTSG’s work, and the team was required to be highly organised to ensure there was no disruption to the market or the office residents.
PTSG has a great deal of experience working at important historic sites. Last year the Group carried out inspection and testing at 37 Historic Scotland sites, including Stirling Castle, Glasgow Cathedral and Linlithgow Palace.
