Premier Technical Services Group Ltd (PTSG), via constituent company Pendrich Height Services, has completed a project to carry out urgent repairs to a power station chimney from which concrete was crumbling and causing an immediate danger.
A steeplejack and rope access team from PTSG Building Access Specialists Ltd was mobilised immediately to attend the site. Using ladders and temporary access cradles, a full inspection was undertaken to the 300-metre-high chimney. This enabled engineers to remove any potentially dangerous concrete from the external shell. Once this was removed, a programme of repairs was effected and is now being carried out.
Steeplejacking is a highly specialised niche technique, often practised and perfected over many years. It is used to maintain and protect structures such as church steeples and industrial chimney stacks, carrying out repairs to masonry, carpentry or paintwork, as well as cleaning and sandblasting.
