Premier Technical Services Group Ltd (PTSG) has completed the systematic dismantling of a 71-metre refractory lined steel chimney stack for a Yorkshire glassworks.

Precision planning needed to be put in place by the team from PTSG Building Access Specialists Ltd as the entire site was live and under full production. To separate each chimney section into manageable lift sections, the internal refractory lining had to be removed around the internal circumference.

The Group’s rope access engineers descended the internal of chimney and systematically removed the lining around each separation point of each chimney section. Using a two-crane configuration, the chimney was burnt around the circumference of the shell by our steeplejacks within a man basket attached to a crane.

The second crane that was attached to the chimney section lifted the load to ground level onto awaiting trucks for disposal. The dismantling process was repeated until the entire chimney was removed from site.

The site engineer gave the following comment about PTSG’s work: “The chimney was removed like a military mission and I am delighted with the full site performance.”
