NSS, a constituent company of Premier Technical Services Group Ltd (PTSG) has completed a project to deliver essential repairs to a large tertiary teaching hospital in Oxford.
John Radcliffe Hospital forms part of Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and is named after the 18th-century physician who endowed the Radcliffe Infirmary, the main hospital for Oxford from 1770 to 2007. The new hospital complex, including the West Wing and Children’s Hospital, was opened at a special ceremony in 2008.
The new structure had experienced persistent leaks since its completion. Specialists from PTSG were engaged to replace the failing gutter system and conduct essential repairs. The primary challenges centred around access and safety considerations, particularly on the building’s east side. This area presented specific risks due to:
· An active pedestrian route below the work area
· Proximity to a live nursery facility
· Need to maintain hospital operations
· Working at height requirements
· Complex access requirements through plant rooms and ladder systems
PTSG’s operatives implemented a comprehensive solution that addressed both technical and safety requirements. This resulted in the successful resolution of all nine leak points, with PTSG securing ongoing maintenance responsibilities for the building. The solution not only addressed immediate concerns but also established a sustainable maintenance programme for long-term building protection.
