Premier Technical Services Group Ltd (PTSG) has completed a specialist electrical services including lightning protection project at a prison in the south-west of England.
HM Prison Service runs 105 of the 122 prisons in England and Wales. The others are run by private companies. There are men’s prisons, women’s prisons and Young Offender Institutions (YOIs).
Every prison has its own unique environment. While some are based in the middle of a city, others are very remote. Some builders constructed these hundreds of years ago, while others are brand new.” Some can hold as many as 1600 prisoners, and others as few as 160.
Builders constructed this particular prison in the south-west of England in the mid-19th century. It is a typical Victorian design, with three wings positioned around the centre.
Engineers from PTSG Electrical Services Ltd carried out a full test and inspection of the lightning protection system. Required by law on an annual basis, a test and inspection will highlight any remedial work that needs to be undertaken. This is to ensure the system remains fully operational and able to protect buildings and users alike.
