Premier Technical Services Group Ltd (PTSG), via constituent company Pendrich Height Services, recently dismantled a 70-metre steel chimney at a Yorkshire glassworks.
The chimney was decommissioned due to steelwork that was thinning to such an extent that it was jeopardising the integrity of the structure. PTSG’s team of steeplejack and rope access specialists was mobilised quickly to site, where they scaled the chimney’s façade to separate the steel chimney into sections that could be lifted down using a crane of an appropriate size.
With a detailed understanding of industrial plants, PTSG provides a bespoke service for all types of chimney stack. Its specialists have been able to provide access solutions and repair methods for every high-level chimney project it has been contracted for, from maintenance of school chimney stacks to the demolition of power station chimneys. Two notable projects in recent years have taken place at British Steel in Scunthorpe, to repair a number of industrial chimneys; and Drax Power Ltd in Selby, to carry out an inspection of a 400-feet-high cooling tower at the power station, with subsequent repairs to its concrete shell. Access was gained via ladders and work cradles.
