Premier Technical Services Group Ltd (PTSG) has been contracted to deliver specialist electrical services the redeveloped Shotton Paper Mill in Flintshire, Wales.
Shotton Paper Mill employed around 530 people directly at the height of production in the 1990s, but as the demand for newsprint declined, so too did production until it ceased altogether in 2021. It is now being redeveloped into an advanced, state-of-the-art containerboard and tissue manufacturing facility.
The Shotton Mill redevelopment will include the transformation of the existing main site, expansion into the adjacent vacant land present north of the main site, and development of a combined heat and power (CHP) plant.
The redevelopment project is estimated to involve an investment of £600m ($691.9m). It will be carried out in two phases. The first phase is scheduled to be operational in 148 acres in 2024, creating about 660 new jobs.
In this contract, engineers from PTSG Electrical Services Ltd are installing a power earthing system. Its purpose is to provide a path (a protective conductor) for a fault current to flow to earth, protecting people in the facility from electric shock.
PTSG is the UK’s leading provider of lightning and surge protection, as well as power earthing systems. Its engineers deliver new installations, testing and inspection, maintenance and upgrades for customers in all industry sectors.
