The Guild of Architectural Ironmongers (GUI) has renewed its call for mandatory fire door inspections and maintenance as part of Building Regulations.
The demand for competency checks on those who specify fire doors and associated door hardware came in response to the ‘Building a Safer Future’ consultation on fire safety. The proposals in the consultation build on the recommendations from Dame Judith Hackitt’s Independent Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety.
Douglas Masterson, technical manager of the GAI, said: “Any increased emphasis on competence in industry is most welcome. Our view is that there is a clear requirement for fire-related and other complex specifications to be undertaken by qualified ironmongers, and that installations and maintenance should also be undertaken by qualified personnel or companies.”
This is a view that resonates strongly with Premier Technical Services Group Ltd. (PTSG). PTSG operates four divisions encompassing a wide range of specialist services for the FM and construction sectors. Its Fire Solutions division is the fastest growing area of business, which now offers a turnkey service following the acquisition of Trinity Fire & Security Systems in January this year.
PTSG Fire Solutions Ltd operates out of 13 UK offices, with its many experienced industry specialists designing, installing, servicing and maintaining fire prevention and fire suppression systems and equipment. The safety of building users is the reason behind all work undertaken, which is why no compromise is ever taken with regard to workmanship. PTSG, as a Group, now holds over 130 industry accreditations and is a RoSPA Gold Medal holder (one of a small number in the UK).
