As we come to the end of 2021, Premier Technical Services Group Ltd (PTSG) is pleased to report another extremely successful and productive year – despite challenges that none of us would ever have envisioned.
In 2022 we will celebrate 15 years of trading. During that time we have grown from a handful of niche specialist services delivered from our West Yorkshire HQ to the UK’s leading provider access and safety, electrical, building access, fire and water treatment services to the construction and FM sectors, with over 1,700 people working from 41 offices nationwide.
2021 saw leading global growth investor, Warburg Pincus, enter an agreement with Macquarie Capital Principal Finance (“Macquarie Capital”) to jointly acquire a majority stake in the Group. This was a milestone in our history and marked the start of our next phase of growth.
We also formed a fifth division – PTSG Water Treatment Ltd – through the strategic acquisitions of Total Environmental Compliance (TEC), with offices in Widnes and Corby, and HCS Water Treatment, based in Glasgow. This enabled us to build further on our position as the single provider of the full complement of specialist services. PTSG Water Treatment Ltd is working on many projects throughout the UK and is already growing its existing client base.
It goes without saying that the pandemic continued to present many and varied challenges, and I am proud of all our specialists for continuing to take the utmost caution at all times to protect themselves and everybody at the places we work.
Material shortages were another significant part of 2021. The UK Government’s stay-at-home orders led to increased consumer buying, selling, and consequently spending on larger houses and home improvements, as people tried to make space for both work and personal life in their homes. The result was that with builders struggled to source supplies, with UK factories also battling to cope with demand. This had a knock-on effect throughout the supply chain.
It is clear from monitoring the industry and economy throughout 2021 that businesses must be adaptable. Since 2020, we have delivered solutions for clients’ buildings to enable them to continue trading amidst the pandemic. Equipment such as touch-free devices have made a measurable difference, while deep cleans have helped to minimise the risk of infection. These are just two additions to our portfolio of specialist services for our customers.
PTSG also strengthened its provision in Electrical Services and Fire Solutions through the acquisition of ECS and Neo Property Services respectively. Just weeks after joining the Group, Neo Property Services Ltd announced it had been shortlisted for the Training & Development Of The Year award in the Association for Specialist Fire Protection (ASFP) Awards 2021.
As the UK Government looks to deliver an infrastructure revolution, enhance building safety regulation and step up its commitment to climate change, one of the keys to success in 2022 will be how companies go beyond minimum requirements and standards. The more responsibility we take as an industry, with new, more-efficient techniques for embedding safety and sustainability in our built environment, the smarter we can ensure new regulations will be in delivering safety, but also in fostering innovation and driving up standards beyond the minimum.
