In 2014, we launched MOUSE (Memorable, Outstanding, Unique, Service Experience), a unique customer service-driven initiative. Each month, MOUSE speaks to someone in our team about their life inside and outside of work.

This month, we speak to Donna Brookes, our finance manager for Acescott Specialist Services and Nimbus Lightning Protection, to learn about her role and what she enjoys doing when she’s not at work.

At work

I joined PTSG in January 2014 as an assistant accountant supporting the finance director and finance managers with various accounting duties.

In April 2016, I began working as finance manager for Acescott Specialist Services on secondment until January this year, when I was promoted to the position permanently. My main duties are preparing monthly management accounts for Acescott Specialist Services and Nimbus Lightning Protection (which we acquired in February), payroll for over 200 employees, purchase order processing VAT returns, CIS returns, preparing applications and supporting the finance team in other areas wherever needed.

I have always worked in accounts; prior to working for PTSG I worked at Semantic, an Italian-owned company that manufactures elevator doors and components. I joined PTSG to gain more exposure to management accounts in a head office environment and to be supported through studying the ACCA qualification to become a qualified accountant.

I enjoy the variation of my role at PTSG which is challenging, but does keep me motivated. Working here has helped me develop my career further and grow as a person too. As PTSG grows I hope to become responsible for the finance function of more group companies, and would also like to gain further knowledge on the acquisition side of the business and become more involved in this in the future.

At home

Outside of work I enjoy socialising and spending time with family, in particular my nephew Jack who keeps me on my toes. I also like playing netball (when we win!). We play in a Wakefield and Sheffield league a couple of times a week. I’m not sure if shopping counts as a hobby, but I love to shop too.
