Premier Technical Services Group Ltd (PTSG) has completed a specialist Electrical Services project for the High Temperature Research Centre at The University of Birmingham.
The main campus of the university is arranged around Joseph Chamberlain Memorial Clock Tower (affectionately known as ‘Old Joe’ or ‘Big Joe’), a grand campanile which commemorates the university’s first chancellor, Joseph Chamberlain. Chamberlain was largely responsible for the university gaining its Royal Charter in 1900 and for the development of the Edgbaston campus. The High Temperature Research Centre (HTRC) is a joint collaboration between the University of Birmingham and Rolls-Royce to enable production-scale research and experimentation.
The work of engineers from PTSG Electrical Services Ltd followed an urgent request to carry out an EICR at a technical laboratory with critical experiments running 24/7.
The fixed wiring work was planned in very quickly at the request of the client. The initial and ongoing planning of PTSG’s engineers (Joe Salsbury, Matt Loud and Richard Griffiths) meant that any disruption to the site was minimised. The PTSG team were particularly conscious of ensuring circuits were identified and then named correctly. The university has sensitive equipment and building management controls onsite and the engineers ensured they engaged with the right operations and maintenance teams to ensure normal operation could continue largely as normal.
The strong performance of PTSG’s engineers brought praise from the university’s operations, facilities and machine maintenance teams on their competence, diligence and thoroughness. Additionally, from a health and safety point of view, their practices complied with the university’s onsite rules and arrangements.
The Quality and Health & Safety Manager at the university’s High Temperature Research Centre commented: “Any of PTSG’s team would be welcome back to our site. In fact, we hope one of them will conduct the remedials work that comes out from the report as required.”
