Neo, part of Premier Technical Services Group Ltd (PTSG), has been named a finalist in the prestigious Security & Fire Excellence Awards 2024, for its comprehensive passive fire protection project at the University of Leeds.

The nomination in the Passive Fire Protection Project category acknowledges Neo’s innovative repairs-first approach and successful delivery of a £3.6 million programme of work across multiple university sites.

The project, completed during summer 2024, showcases Neo’s expertise in managing complex fire safety challenges while maintaining the highest standards of compliance and sustainability.

Working across several university buildings required Neo to plan so that the works were delivered safely in residential buildings, including some high-risk buildings above seven storeys. Neo’s team delivered a full programme of fire door maintenance, replacements and fire stopping assets.

Steve Doherty, Managing Director of Neo, commented: “Being shortlisted for this award reflects our team’s commitment to excellence in passive fire protection. The University of Leeds project demonstrated our ability to deliver large-scale fire safety improvements while minimising disruption to the university community.”

A standout aspect of the project was Neo’s repairs-first approach, which helped extend the lifecycle of existing fire doors while ensuring full compliance with current safety standards.

The project included the upgrade of 539 fire doors in the Henry Price building alone, alongside extensive fire stopping works across multiple sites.

The University’s Project Manager, Adam Ives, praised Neo’s approach: “Neo’s professionalism, expertise, and dedication to delivering high-quality results made this project a resounding success. Their repair-first approach not only enhanced safety but also offered significant sustainability benefits.”

The Security & Fire Excellence Awards are among the industry’s most respected accolades, recognising outstanding achievements in fire safety and security.

The winners will be announced on Monday 2 December at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House, London.

Neo provides dedicated passive fire services and are an integral part of PTSG Fire Solutions Ltd. Passive fire protection is comprised of components or systems in a building or structure that slows or impedes the spread of the effects of fire or smoke without system activation. In addition to passive fire services, this division – one of the Group’s five independent business divisions – offers mechanical fire suppression systems (sprinklers and dry and wet risers), fire detection and alarms systems and security systems and equipment.
