PTSG strengthens defences of iconic castle

Premier Technical Services Group Ltd (PTSG) has completed specialist electrical works at Warwick Castle, one of Britain’s finest castles.

The original motte and bailey castle was built by William the Conqueror during 1068, which was rebuilt in stone during the 12th century. During the Hundred Years War, the facade opposite the town was refortified, resulting in one of the most recognisable examples of 14th-century military architecture.

In 2001, Warwick Castle was named one of Britain’s “Top 10 historic houses and monuments” by the British Tourist Authority; the list included Tower of London, Stonehenge, and Edinburgh Castle. The castle is protected against unauthorised change as a scheduled monument in recognition of its status as a “nationally important” archaeological site or historic building and is a Grade I listed building together with its boundary walls, stables, conservatory, mill and lodge.

In this project, engineers from PTSG Electrical Services Ltd carried out a full test and inspection of the lightning protection system in place to protect the castle and its users.

Once a lightning protection system is installed, it must be professionally tested at least once a year to ensure it is capable of conducting a potential lightning strike to a safe earthing point. This ensures compliance with the Electricity at Work Act 1989 and BS EN 62305. If any repairs are required to ensure a system remains compliant, PTSG’s engineers are highly qualified and experienced to deliver them.
