Premier Technical Services Group Ltd (PTSG) has been contracted to provide specialist electrical services at 214 Oxford Street, a major retail building that will soon be home to IKEA London City.

Current businesses in the building that spans 214-236 Oxford Street are Nike Town and the Vans store. IKEA London City will open in autumn 2024, which replaces Top Shop. The property comprises a total of 22,200 sqm / 239,000 square feet over seven floors, with retail space on six floors.

Before 214 Oxford Street was transformed into one of the most popular areas for shopping in the capital, it used to be an Edwardian department store. Prior to that, it was a crystal palace.

The Crystal Palace Bazaar, built and designed in 1858 by architect Owen Jones. It was modelled on the Crystal Palace built for the Great Exhibition in Hyde Park in 1851. The flamboyant building had a vault 11 metres high. It has decorative touches such as wrought iron ribs and star-shaped glass in the ceiling.

Engineers from PTSG Electrical Services Ltd will deliver a new lightning protection system on behalf of Phoenix ME. This will safeguard the structure and its users in the event of an electrical storm.

PTSG is the UK’s leading provider of lightning protection services. It is also thought to be one of the oldest. JW Gray, which became part of PTSG in 2015, began trading in 1835. This made it one of the oldest – if not the oldest – trading provider of lightning protection services in the UK and possible even Europe.
