Premier Technical Services Group Ltd (PTSG) has been contracted to install lightning protection as part of specialist electrical services at the University of Bristol.
The university received its royal charter in 1909, although it can trace its roots to a Merchant Venturers’ school founded in 1595, and University College, Bristol, which had been in existence since 1876.
The university spreads over a considerable geographic area, lacking a main campus. However, most of its activities concentrate in the area of the city centre, known as the “University Precinct”.
Some of the University of Bristol’s buildings date to its pre-charter days when it was University College Bristol. Charles Hansom designed these buildings, and financial pressure led to their construction occurring in stages. Ralph Brentnall designed many of the more modern buildings, including Senate House and the newer parts of the HH Wills Physics Laboratory, using funds from the University Grants Committee. He is also responsible for completing the extension to the Wills Memorial Building library to such a standard that few now realize it is an extension to the original building.
This contract will see engineers from PTSG Electrical Services Ltd deliver a test and inspection of the lightning protection system in place at the university. The law requires this at least every 12 months. PTSG works with a large number of customers in the education sector, as well as many other industry sectors, to ensure their lightning protection systems remain compliant. PTSG’s highly skilled engineers can also carry out any maintenance, repairs, or upgrades.
