A senior spokesperson for the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) has spoken of the Building Safety Act 2022 and how there is nothing in them for building contractors to fear.
Neil Hope-Collins said it was “absolutely shocking and hugely disappointing” that many companies simply make no attempt to prepare for the new regime. Many would rather bury their heads in the sand than study the details, wrongly assuming the act covers only high-risk buildings. However, if they were to take just a little time, they would see that the act largely mirrors the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations that have been in place since 1995.

Fire Safety
The new Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022, which come into effect on 23 January 2023, are something else which Duty Holders need to prepare for regarding the compliance of their assets – and the safety of building users, which is, of course, the ultimate consideration.
Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 are being introduced under Article 24 of the Fire Safety Order 2005. Regulations made under article 24 can impose requirements on responsible persons in relation to mitigating the risk to residents for specific premises.
The Fire Safety Order applies to all premises including workplaces and the common parts of all multi-occupied residential buildings. It already requires responsible persons where necessary to take certain steps to ensure the safety of residents.
