Premier Technical Services Group Ltd (PTSG) has completed a project at a major glass making firm in the west of Scotland via its Building Access Specialists Ltd division.
The project saw the Group’s engineers deliver a complete turnaround at the site, dismantling three 60-metre refractory lined steel chimney stacks.
The planning to carry out the works to the live plant was extensive as every expectation had to be considered. Using a 500-tonne crane in close proximity to the live plant, the chimney stacks were cut into sizes that were pre-weighed and calculated to allow the crane to safely lift the sections down to ground level where an 80-tonne crane tailed out the section from vertical to horizontal to allow the chimney sections to be loaded onto a flat-bed articulated unit for immediate removal from site.
The entire process was carried out quicker than the scheduled programme by working extended hours to maximise production – all to the delight of the customer and site engineers.
