Whether he’s facing a corky on the cricket pitch, or ensuring the safety of people working at height here at Premier Technical Services Group Ltd. (PTSG), Mark Davison never lets his guard down.
The keen cricketer is PTSG’s Director of Access Maintenance Division and he has just returned from the National Work at Height Conference and Exhibition at the AJ Bell Stadium in Salford – home of Sale Sharks.
Mark is also the Chair of SAEMA (Specialist Access Engineering and Maintenance Association) the national trade body responsible for gathering and sharing best practice in raising standards for the UK permanent and temporary access industry.
Falls from height are the single biggest cause of workplace deaths and one of the main causes of major injuries.
It’s an issue which really can’t be underestimated, with the conference and exhibition featuring a host of exceptional speakers coming together to shape the future of working at height – particularly when it comes to safety.
The event covered everything from the role of virtual reality through to the impact of mental health awareness and managing risks.
Mark said: “You can never be complacent when it comes to the safety of both our people and those working in our supply chain.
“The work we do can be dangerous and it’s important staff take these dangers seriously day-in, day-out.
“It has been really insightful representing the company at the National Work at Height Conference and Exhibition with a wide-range of topics and discussions; it has given me a lot to think about as we continue to look at way to put all our staff in the best possible situation to arrive home from work safely.
“Although the consequences of falling from height are far more severe than on the cricket field, similarly in both you can’t let your guard down. We should all play defensive when the consequences of not doing so put your life at risk.”
The visit to the conference comes a few months after Mark attended the Houses of Parliament for the latest All-Party Parliamentary Group on Working at Height meeting aimed at enhancing the reporting of accidents and incidents to allow the industry to better target effort and resources to reduce the rate of fatalities and major injuries.
Since we began trading in 2007, working at height has been central to our multi-disciplinary services, from the installation and maintenance of cradles to lightning protection systems, high-level cleaning and reparations, fire solutions – and many other specialist services.
PTSG is a double RoSPA Gold Medal winner, having received no fewer than eight consecutive Gold Awards since 2011, and currently holds an international distinction through the British Safety Council for its ongoing work in health and safety.
