PTSG plays important role at National Work at Height Conference 2019
As the UK’s leading niche specialist service provider to the FM and construction sectors, PTSG’s team has an in-depth and professional understanding of what is needed to deliver both safely and well for the company’s 180,000 customers.
PTSG Access & Safety is the UK’s largest provider of cradles maintenance and installation services for permanently installed suspended access equipment. In 2018, PTSG won the coveted PFM award for collaborative working with Skanska for the company’s challenging, but innovative and value-adding cradle project within London’s brand new Scalpel building. It was also announced last week that PTSG has been shortlisted by Construction News for its cradle installation work at Number One Blackfriars . The Scalpel building has been shortlisted in the specialist awards category.
Mark Davison directs the team that provides maintenance, inspection, testing and repair services for all types of equipment including building maintenance units (BMUs) gantry systems, cradle systems, monorail systems and lifting equipment. He is also the Chair of SAEMA (Specialist Access Engineering and Maintenance Association) the national trade body responsible for gathering and sharing best practice in raising standards for the UK permanent and temporary access industry.
In November, Mark returned from the National Work at Height Conference and Exhibition at the AJ Bell Stadium in Salford – home of Sale Sharks – where, along with industry colleagues, he shared PTSG’s award-winning approach to delivering best in class projects in a safe and effective manner.
Many of the buildings PTSG’s engineers work on are unique in size and structure, requiring a unique system for accessing their façade. Maintenance covers a wide field of services including reactive works/call-outs, repairs and refurbishments, condition surveys and advice, operation of equipment and asset management.
As work is invariably undertaken at height, it carries an inherent risk. Falls from height are the single biggest cause of workplace deaths and one of the main causes of major injuries. It’s an issue which cannot aver be underestimated; the National Work at Height Conference and Exhibition featured a host of exceptional speakers coming together to shape the future of working at height – particularly when it comes to safety.
The event covered everything from the role of virtual reality through to the impact of mental health awareness and managing risks.
Mark said: “You can never be complacent when it comes to the safety of both our people and those working in our supply chain. The work we do can be dangerous and it’s important that our people take these dangers seriously day-in, day-out.
Mark puts the lessons from events such as these into his own Access Maintenance Division, helping to make it as safe as possible. “It has been really insightful representing the company at the National Work at Height Conference and Exhibition with a wide-range of topics and discussions; it has given me a lot to think about as we continue to look at way to put all our people in the best possible situation to arrive home from work safely,” he continued.
The conference comes a few months after PTSG attended the Houses of Parliament for the latest All-Party Parliamentary Group on Working at Height meeting aimed at enhancing the reporting of accidents and incidents to allow the industry to better target effort and resources to reduce the rate of fatalities and major injuries.
Since PTSG began trading in 2007, working at height has been central to the company’s multi-disciplinary services – from the installation and maintenance of cradles to lightning protection systems, high-level cleaning and reparations, fire solutions – and many other specialist services.
PTSG is a double RoSPA Gold Medal winner, having received no fewer than eight consecutive Gold Awards since 2011, and currently holds an international distinction through the British Safety Council for its ongoing work in health and safety.
