Water Hygiene Services

Water hygiene encompasses the implementation and monitoring of written control schemes after a risk assessment as well as the upgrade or improvement of your water system. We can assist you not only in providing tried and tested methods of monitoring, cleaning, disinfection and refurbishment of water systems, but also in designing innovative engineered control measures to comply with relevant legal requirements.

Under COSHH Regulations 2002 and ACoP L8, employers have legal duty to prepare and manage a scheme for maintaining safe water quality.

Following a risk assessment of water systems, we are able to physically undertake remedial action required in order to comply with recommendations stated in ACoP L8.Typical water hygiene activities we under take include but not limited to:

  • Descaling/Cleaning/Disinfection of Storage tanks, Cooling tower, Showerhead, Calorifier etc.
  • Hot and Cold Water System Disinfection
  • Tank Refurbishments and Upgrades to ‘Byelaw 30’
  • Water Quality Testing
Legionella risk assessment

Legionella Risk Assessment

We have a wealth of experience in conducting Legionella risk assessments across all industry sectors. Building owners are responsible for their work premises under the Health and Safety Act 1974.

They must carry out a risk assessment of the property or premises that assesses the risk of exposure to Legionella. We can make them aware of what Legionella is, what systems are hazardous and which are low-risk.

The HSE’s Approved Code of Practice (ACoP) L8 is a guideline document for the prevention and control of legionellosis in water systems and has a special legal status by which the employer can be prosecuted, fined or even imprisoned, if it is proved that you did not follow the relevant provisions of the Code.

Our risk assessment follows the guidance set out in BSEN 8580:2010 which gives recommendations on the assessment of the risk of legionellosis presented by artificial water systems. The assessment will conclude on the condition of plant and advise you of any remediation necessary in order to reduce the risk from Legionella bacteria.

Water treatment 1

Water Treatment

Cooling towers and water systems perform an intrinsic function within a building. However corrosion, scaling, fouling and microbiological contamination, including legionella, can pose a significant health and safety risk. PTSG Water Treatment Ltd can minimise the risk to your employees, clients and your business by creating a water treatment programme with an effective maintenance regime to safeguard against any foreseeable risk.

We maintain, treat, monitor and prolong the life of our clients’ water supplies and systems through the following services:

  • Heating and chilled closed systems
  • Pre-treatment, maintenance and commissioning
  • Chemical dosing, maintenance and installation
  • Cooling tower maintenance
  • Steam boiler maintenance
  • Steam quality testing
  • Water softening services
  • RPZ testing service
  • CIO2 testing and maintenance
  • X-POT® installation and maintenance

Water Sampling

A water systems sampling service can encompass a whole range of applications from cooling water towers and cold water storage tanks to swimming pools and jacuzzis, humidifiers, dental equipment, emergency showers, closed water systems, water heaters and many more.

There is an important distinction between water sampling and water testing. Water testing is the process used for analysing the constituents or microbial content of the water. Water sampling is the action of sample collection and transportation. As they are separate services, there are separate British Standards for each.

All legionella monitoring and sampling programmes for cooling towers and cooling water systems should include routine sampling and testing for the presence of bacteria including Legionella bacteria. The water testing procedures should include for both general (aerobic) bacterial species and more specifically Legionella bacteria.

In addition to the regular sampling for aerobic bacteria in cooling water, a routine monitoring scheme should also include periodic sampling for the presence of Legionella bacteria. This should be undertaken at least quarterly, unless sampling is necessary for other reasons, such as to help identify possible sources of the bacteria during outbreaks of Legionnaires’ disease.

Fogging

Eco Fogging

PTSG has a dedicated fogging division, with a team of qualified specialists for the control and decontamination of bacteria and viruses within various applications.

Applying our in-depth knowledge of bacteria controls and fogging technology, we deliver effective dry fogging disinfection solution for a wide variety of clients.

Ultra-Low Volume(UVL) dry fogging involves using 1-5 micron droplets of disinfection that will settle on all surfaces of many objects and inaccessible areas that may not be reached using conventional methods. Studies show the application of disinfection by aerosol significantly reduces the number of viable infectious airborne pathogens.

This is achieved by treating air quality and all touch point surfaces with a dry disinfection with minimal disruption.

On completion, we will verify disinfection with an Ensure touch hand-held monitor that will analyse a rapid test, measuring active growth of microorganisms through detection of Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP).

The cleaning and disinfection of key touchpoints, such as door handles, washroom facilities and shared surfaces is carried out to minimise the risk of microbiological contamination to help protect staff, customers and visitors providing a safer environment.

Environmental consultancy

Environmental Consultancy

We provide high-quality monitoring and assessment services through a dedicated team of specialist environmental consultants.

Our team has practical experience of helping companies comply with the environmental legislation and directives that affect the modern manufacturing business in the industrial sector. We are also able to offer a complete range of occupational exposure monitoring strategies to identify, assess and control risks to workers health and to assess indoor air quality.

All occupational exposure monitoring is carried out using HSE, NIOSH or OSHA validated methods and will provide data to allow comparison with HSE Workplace Exposure Limits as stated in EH40.

We provide a broad range of environmental consultancy services, tailored to your business including:

  • Industrial Noise Assessment
  • Local Exhaust Ventilation Testing
  • Stack Emissions Monitoring
  • Occupational Exposure Monitoring
  • Indoor Air Quality

We have designed our consultancy to work together with our clients, providing a final written report detailing actions implemented.

Please contact us about your next project and discover how we can help you comply in the most effective manner.

Mechanical engineering

Tank Refurbishments and Upgrades

Our experienced plumbers approved by WIAPS (WRAS) scheme are qualified to undertake various mains water works for local water suppliers.

Water storage cisterns (commonly those over 20 years old) could possibly present a Legionella risk if they are not properly constructed and do not have secure lids, proper insulation, good front to back circulation or screened lid vents/overflows. To comply with Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 and BS 8558 we offer the following mechanical engineering services:

  • Installation of ‘byelaw 30’ kits like screened lid vents, overflow insect/rodent screens
  • Tank lining/ painting
  • Tank insulation
  • Tank lids
  • Modification or replacement of hollow PVC lid supports
  • Rerouting of pipework to avoid stagnation
  • Hot and cold water system disinfection
